The Old Quarter and Fortress, Luxembourg

Because of its strategic position between France, Germany and Rome, the rocky elevation of Luxembourg was the site of the Luxembourg fortress for over 300 years until it was dismantled in 1867. Trace the history of the military fortress and the medieval power struggles of Europe with a guided tour of the underground pathways and around the corniche to the Rahm Plateau and the Fortress Museum. The fascinating museum houses artwork, maps, military arms, canons and artillery. Learn about the foreign powers and armies who occupied Luxembourg over the past 1,000 years.
