Pisa, Italy
The Tower of Pisa, commonly referred to as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, is globally recognized. An architectural mystery to many, this 180-foot bell tower leans away from cathedral due to the soft underground. Whether it will fall has been rumored since it was built in the 12th-century. Reinforced with lead counterweights, the Tower of Pisa will be standing for many years to come.

Made from beautiful marble and limestone
Looking up at the the tower of Pisa, you will gaze in amazement at the craftsmanship of the designers, stonemasons, and artisans that built this globally iconic tower. Completed in 1372, the leaning tower of Pisa is made of limestone and white marble quarried from nearby mountains in San Giuliano. Rumors widely circulated during the Middle Ages that the marble was so pure that it caused the tower to lean. However, historians have since proven that the tower began its famous lean around the time the second story was built.

Picnic in Pisa
As you stroll around the lawns surrounding the Tower of Pisa, you'll find a perfect picnic spot to rest and enjoy some Italian Focaccia bread, salami, cheese and of course scrumptious Italian desserts that all can be purchased from delis and grocery stores. Just look for the stores that have 'Alimentari' signs on them. Pisa is a perfect day trip from Florence or Siena in Tuscany.
