Less than a 2-hour drive from Edinburgh is the ancient town and very popular Scottish travel destination of St. Andrews. Perched on the Forth of Firth and Eden Estuary, the wide beach of St. Andrews was made famous by the 1981 Chariots of Fire film which won 4 Academy Awards! Go on, you can hum the film's theme song!

The town of St Andrews was establish as the central location of Medieval Catholic Church. Built in 1158, the ruins of the St. Andrews Cathedral are a very pretty sight as you enter the town. Bustling with tourists either visiting the University, playing golf at the St.Andrews golf links, or idling time in the North and South Streets in downtown St. Andrews, you are sure to enjoy the activities of Fife’s most prominent town. Today, St. Andrews is known widely as where Prince William of England attended university and met Kate, now Duchess of Cambridge. You can even find the cafes (courtesy of the signs in the cafe windows) where Willsy and Kate would meet for coffee before attending classes.

St. Andrews Golf Courses

Traveling to Scotland and visiting St. Andrews Golf links is a major milestone for thousands of golfers each year. Home to the Royal & Ancient Golf Club, which administers the rules of golf globally, “the old” which is what the locals call the Old Course of St. Andrews golf links dates back to the 1600’s and is still the most recognizable golf course in the world. Unknown to most golfers is that St. Andrews Links has 4 other golf courses including the New Golf Course, Jubilee Golf Course, Eden Golf Course and Castle Course. These golf courses are easier to book (and less expensive) than the Old Course, which is often booked months in advance. All St. Andrews Golf courses offer a links golf experience and magnificent views of the town of St Andrews. Golf club hire is available in the town as well.
